dog ownership

Transfer a Dog

From 1 October 2021, Dogs West members must do one of the following within 90 days of disposing of a dog:

Transfer the dog to the new owner/s by completing and submitting the paperwork to Dogs West to affect the transfer of the dog

OR

If there is an agreement between the parties that the dog remains in the current owner/s name/s, lodge a 'Non-Transfer Agreement' with Dogs West that is signed by all parties.

This requirement falls under Section R of the Dogs West regulations as well as Part 6 of Dogs Australia Regulations. Any breach of regulations in these sections is an offence.

What’s Changed?

You have the option to transfer the dog to the new owner/s at the time of Litter Registration.

In Part 2 of the Litter Registration Form, where you supply puppy details, you can also include new owner/s details.

The Litter Registration form consists of 3 parts. Part 1 (page 1) records the details of the mating and the number of puppies living at time of registration. Part 2 (page 2) includes space for the details of each puppy as well as space for new owner/s details. Part 3 is a continuation of Part 2 (additional pages)

Cost of Registration and Transfer

As of 1 July 2024, the cost to register a puppy is $60 and the cost to transfer a dog is $47.

Example - If you submitted a litter of 5 puppies (1 Main Register and 4 Limit Register) with new owner/s details for 4 Limit Register puppies and 4 signed Limited Register Agreements the total cost would be $488 (5 Registrations and 4 Transfers).

The Litter Record Fee no longer applies.

New Pedigrees

When you transfer ownership at the time of registration you will not receive a physical copy of the new pedigree. A copy of the transferred pedigree will be provided to you by email.

Example - Using the same scenario above you would receive 1 physical Main Register pedigree and 4 electronic copies of the transferred Limit Register pedigrees.

New pedigrees are posted directly from Dogs West to the new owner.
