Dogs have long assisted humans in hunting and removing vermin to prevent damage to food storage.
Bale Seek allows dogs to demonstrate their abilities of searching, scenting, hunting, agility and responsive teamwork with their handler.
What Is Bale Seek?
Bale Seek is an active dog sport where dogs use their natural scent and hunting instincts to search through a maze or course made of straw or hay bales.
Dogs are searching for “quarry” which are pvc tubes with the scent of vermin.
The event is held in a simulated bale setting, indoors or outdoors, and involves bales in various positions providing obstacles for dogs to climb and search. There are various levels of increasing challenges and titles to be earned.
Who Can Participate?
All dogs are welcome, that are 6 months or older and registered with Dogs Australia by Dogs West.
Dogs are classified by height to compete as small, medium or large dogs, in the 6 Classes that are available, starting with the Instinct class, and moving up through the classes as dogs earn their Certificates in each class, to the top level of Master Excellent.
Training and Preparation
Bale Seek fun practice days are held from time to time to allow dogs and their handlers to learn the ropes of this fun sport.
