Update on Pet Microchipping Requirements in WA

The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries has advised of an important change to prescribed microchip databases for cats and dogs in Western Australia.

Amendments to the Cat Regulations 2012 and Dog Regulations 2013 have removed HomeSafeID from the list of prescribed microchip database companies (MDCs).

While microchips purchased from HomeSafeID may still be implanted, the animal’s details must now be registered with one of the following prescribed MDCs:

Central Animal Records (Aust) Pty Ltd – car.com.au

Global Micro Animal Registry – globalmicro.com.au

Petsafe – petsafe.com.au

Australasian Animal Registry – aar.org.au

As it is no longer possible to update owner information with HomeSafeID, pet owners should ensure their cat or dog is registered with an alternate prescribed database.
