I am often told "I would love to help, but I know nothing about Herding."
If you feel the same, please, read on.
Knowing how to TRAIN a herding dog to trial standard is not a prerequisite to become a herding judge. As in all disciplines, there are as many ways to train a dog, as there are trainers. Yet there is only one way to JUDGE correctly.
Aspiring judges are thoughtfully guided through the steps of understanding All Breed Herding.
Training includes;
- The background of each course and the type of stock work it represents
- Understanding stock welfare and behavior
- The differences in herding styles between the breeds and why they exist
Those who successfully complete our training program will not only be able to score, but also have a good understanding of stock behavior so they can judge as appropriate when faced by any of many possible variances in stock behavior.
They will understand the All Breed philosophy that underpins the ANKC Herding Program.
They will not only have confidence in their ability to judge, but also will be capable to do the job.
