Field Trials are broken into 3 separate groups:
- Spaniels and Retrievers. Their job is to cover the groun in front of the handler, getting out nor more than 25 metres to flush any game out for the gun.
- Pointers and Setters. They range out to 150 metres each side of the handler and when they come across game they point and hold the point until the handler gets beside the dog, and which point the dog flushes out the game.
- Utility Field Trials are for all hunt, point and retrieving gundog breeds. Utility dogs cover the ground 100 metres each side of the handler to produce and point for the gun. They hold the point until the handlers gets beside the dog. They also retrieve from land and water.
Each of these three disciplines requires a different judging licence.
Walking in a paddock, watching and judging any of these three groups doing what they are bred for, will give you a true understanding on each breeds structure and temperament.
It is a huge buzz to watch Gundogs working game and going hard on point.
So, come and join us in the beautiful scenery and fresh air.
